A lot of things in life are a black box. A closed system. Your TV, Roku, Tivo, etc. Some software too, especially SaaS. It does what it does and hopefully well, but you aren't allowed to take the back cover off and start monkeying around. If you do, not only may you break it, not only may you be breaking your licensing agreement, but you are likely breaking any warranty you have.

But what if you wanted to 'modify'? Let's take a car as an example. If you bought a car and every time you wanted to do something to it, you have to go back to the dealer, not only would it be time consuming, but also costly. Let's say you wanted to put in a new sound system. Back to the dealer. New rims. Back to the dealer. And the dealer only can have a limited selection.

But if the car company built the car with some standards you could go to a bunch of places or maybe even modify your car yourself. Modify the engine. Modify the suspension.

The analogy is the same if you bought a house and had to go back to the builder every time you wanted to change something.

If you think of DirectScale as a cable box, just as an analogy, they built the ability to connect to a lot of things.

Apple didn't do this early on and it almost cost the company. To a certain degree, they still don't. Opposite of Google and Android.
