I think the medical community is not completely sure but the consensus seems to be that will be here for some time. Some are even indicating that will not go away during summer as happens with some other viruses (flu like).
Heat does not seem to affect it much as Australia Singapore and Hong Kong had bad transmission rates (Singapore and Hong Kong controlled it by robust control), humidity apparently has reduced influence so the agreement is that transmission will continue throughout summer.
Coming back like the flu will depend greatly on the capability of COVID to mutate, the influenza virus changes continuously to such and extent that the scientists have to try and predict 6 months in advance which strain will hit next and, even then, every vaccine has 4 different strains (2 A and 2 B type).
If COVID can mutate rapidly (high rate of unstable RNA replication) we will be in big trouble, if it doesn't, will be "gone" quickly once a vaccine is developed.
