For many applications, paper bags are preferable to plastic bags.
1) The virus lasts longer on plastic than it does on paper.
2) Paper will biodegrade pretty quickly. Plastic (unless it's the corn-based stuff) does not really biodegrade in the sense that it turns into harmless dirt. Instead, it collapses into micro-particles that get into the soil and into food animals, and thus into dairy products, meat, and fish that we eat. And, it pollutes our water so we are drinking them.
There are, however plenty of times that plastic is necessary. What we need is to use paper bags as much as possible, and reserve plastic for those uses which really need it. And SOME of those uses can use the corn-based plastic, which would be good for our farmers too.
