Sometimes I wonder where the state of humanity would be right now if we all always did the right thing by eachother even when it wasn't the BEST thing for ourselves. I don't know the full answer to that question, but as a physician scientist I do know for certain the practice of medicine and our ability to save human life would be far far more advanced then it is currently.
