Anyone can make a no-sewing face mask with a piece of cloth and some hair ties or rubber bands.

Individuals in everyday situations do not need N95 masks. A cloth mask will protect you from most of the mucus and saliva micro-droplets that you would encounter in a typical grocery store, etc. You are not leaning into a sick person's face, intubating them and getting aerosolized virus blown into your face. You're probably just walking through a cloud of someone's floating mucus blobs (think disgusted tongue-stick-out emoji here). Those blobs are lots bigger than the virus itself so a less effective mask still protects you.

Here is an article about how to fold cloth into an effective mask. Look at "Tutorial #3." You don't have to get the filter material -- you can put in another square of cloth, or just omit the filter. It's better to have some protection than no protection.

You can also make the fancier sewn ones if you're the handy type -- lots of videos and patterns online.

If you have N95 masks, you might be saving a healthcare worker's life by donating the masks to a hospital. Check your toolkit and garage -- lots of the masks you might have for painting or woodworking or other projects are N95 masks.

I discovered I had half a dozen P95 and N95 masks (the P95 masks indicate that they also stop paint fumes -- they might be even better against this virus). I'm going to be dropping them by a hospital tomorrow.
