COVID-19 wasn't even in the public sphere of news at the time. This was November-December 2019. Which tells me China had a problem. Well before December and covered it up.
I can't say that is the same for 299,999,999 other Americans. From my dating and or dancing experiences over the last 8 years. The ME ME ME movement that most women and men have bought into are pretty liberal in thought and social activity.
I try to shop from the top shelve or bottom shelves. The majority of goods in the middle have been touched a LOT.
My fear is once all is clear in 2-3 months. We start the process all over again only faster and more serious because of human nature.
