I think the dam's already broke - they just don't know it yet.

I also think that tomorrow we'll see one of those opening gaps that will never fill. Given the amount of excitement and that most of us can't wait for tomorrow's opening bell, I suspect the shorts are hoping tomorrow never comes. I can't imagine how covering 5.4m shorts is going to fuel tomorrow's price surge.
