Long Post for Investors (redflix S6E14)
Not sure why every bit of news has to be dissected as good or bad
Not something longs typically do
Probably will go crazy doing so
I was in a finance roll, filling in last year managing of $200M budget. Yeah, it's the type of thing you want to be in the office for and not just so you can have some big monitors like you see on Jeff's desk at the end of the video below.
It's because you are working with a ton of numbers pulling from various systems. It's because you are likely linking a bunch of spreadsheets together.
If you have them all on your computer it tends to work well
If you have them on servers, not as well, but does work, when it feels like it
But wait, it gets complicated
When you are working with others on the same spreadsheets, it throws a new wrinkle into it
You see, while Microsoft designed the whole mess to sync automatically, sometimes, it just doesn't want to
Uh-Oh, your sync'd version and the server version doesn't match
Which one do you want to keep finance dude?
How the f' do I know?
I made a bunch of changes, but who else did since then?
Isn't this what Microsoft Excel is supposed to keep track of?
That stuff is easier the closer you are to the backend systems as many times, you are pulling data real-time.
Oh, and at the same time, you are working on the accounting of this quarter
Oh, and at the same time, and also planning this year and next
Can it be humanly done remotely
I suppose
If we can send a man to the moon anything is possible
But it's easier and faster, when in the office.
If you are a coder, and you screw up one line of your 1000 lines, it's not the end of the world.
Make a formula mistake and it's a big deal
How do you know you didn't make a mistake?
Everything need to be cross checked for accuracy
The other part of the the Q is audits
VERB doesn't audit themselves mind you
There are 3rd parties and they are not found on messageboards
Not everything in the world is electronic either
Yeah, some stuff is still on paper.
Oh, one other little thingie
Financials are highly confidential information
You think CFOs are IM-ing back and forth that info, those documents on Slack?
You think they are emailing documents around?
BTW @ 2:30 mark in the update Rory gave on 3/20 he already said the finance people need to be in the office, but we know, that has been a challenge, don't we?

Was thinking today on the VERB demo
Just that part
Just that part
Could be an entire company
If you are selling products live, why wouldn't you use it?
If you go through the trouble to make a video anyway
Why wouldn't you make it interactive?
Anyone that watches it for the next day, week, month or year
Could be a buyer
Does everyone that views videos on youtube watch them LIVE or even the same day they come out?
Heck no
The power of interactivity LIVE and recorded is so powerful
Me thinks the later is underestimated
Not everyone can catch everything LIVE
If they could, VCRs never needed a recording option
DVRs wouldn't need to exist
Tivo, which I love, would only exist in a parallel universe
Go back and watch or re-watch the video
Maybe 50%, 80%, 90% of sales could come from viewers watching the recording
When VERB points this out, sales will explode in my opinion
Oh, something else to noodle on
If you watch a recording of QVC or HSN
Can you still buy what you watch?
Something to think about
When I was tee-ing up the Styx song, this commercial popped up
Takes some guts to do something few have done
No, not listen to a youtube commercial...
But come to think it, this is the first one I clicked in all these years
Not effective marketing or good target marketing if you asked me
In the commercial Chris Hadfield said...
"The more you know...
the less you fear"
Let's take the inverse
Those that fear the most, know the least?
There's an astronaut saying
In space, "there is no problem so bad that you can't make it worse."
So how do you deal with the complexity, the sheer pressure, of dealing with dangerous and scary situations?
Makes starting and growing a company see less scary...
Those that do...
Play by play
Can't group thoughts or replies into one post
Embarrassingly overact
Can't read the post 5 down before they repost the same link
Might not be cut out for space
Or posting on a pro company board
Quality, not quantity
Need an example of how to do it:
Take a look at majorexchange
Number of post: 12
Average thumbs: > 10
Is he a tech or a google search expert?
I don't know
Maybe just someone that thinks about what he posts and likes to contribute for the benefit of others?
Soon, posts with no or one thumb are going bye-bye as no one needs to waste time as to what ever pops in someones head.
There is another board for mindless posts.
I know this won't be upsetting since some post the same crap other places at the same time.
If anything, it's going to give you back 50% of your time
Rocket time
Buckle up...
