You need to be careful. "Death rate accelerates by 100 or more" sounds scary, but you provide no context at all. 397 people in the USA dying in a day from it is certainly sad, but more die per day just in the US from heart attacks, cancer, etc.
I know you don't mean it to be, but your post is alarmist without context. Also, I think it can be hard to know if you died from coronavirus OR if you died because you had chronic COPD and coronavirus was a contributing factor. See? Again, context and more information are key.
Most people, to the best of my somewhat limited knowledge, do not die from coronavirus per se, but from complications due to already existing conditions. Yes yes...I know...some (very few) had no pre-exisiting conditions. Some elite runners die of heart attacks too. It happens.
