That's inaccurate. The high expenses are for an ABSSSI clinical trial, involving hundreds of patients and multiple test facilities, over a fairly long period because you'd have to wait for gravely ill patients to come in and qualify for the clinical trial.
HOWEVER -- yes, this does save IPIX a whole bunch of money. We just don't know how much yet because it will depend on what their preliminary results are, how far they will go with it.
If they have great results from their lab testing, then yes, they might pick up the cost of the clinical trial. But, given the emergency, you will bet that the FDA will decide they didn't need hundreds of patients in the clinical trial after all. (As they should not have needed when they slammed IPIX with that crazy requirement)
