Yes, his body has been through a lot. I imagine he is taking whatever precautions he can.
In Joe's mind this is probably a relatively low risk for a high reward situation.
In my thinking, there has got to be something else, a big something else, to take this trip. Beyond some organizational planning. Hopefully something bigger than a photo opportunity.
