You make some very reasonable arguments, and I agree it's smart to try to keep things in perceptive. However, your assertion regarding the fatality rate being equal to the flu is currently impossible to empirically substantiate.
I'm not sure where you are getting your information from, but here are some excerpts from recent stories sourced from legitimate news outlets that may deserve consideration. At the end of the day, we probably won't know the actual fatality rate, and how it compares to the flu, until we get to the end of the first phase of the pandemic (assuming it becomes a full-fledged pandemic).

Coronavirus has an incubation period of up to two weeks, helping the virus to spread. A previous study published in JAMA suggests some patients may be more contagious than others. One patient spread the virus to at least 10 health-care workers and four patients at a hospital in Wuhan.
