For large number of solar panels, lower cost is significant. Higher efficiency will be achieved as new technique is discovered. Theoretically QD solar cell has a maximum solar energy conversion efficiency of 65% as it emits multiple excitons per photon of light absorbed as compared to only one exciton in silicon solar cell.

Scientists at University of Queensland, Australia has achieved 16.5% and are planning to achieve 20% next. It was only 2.7% back in 2010.

QD solar panel will make the labor intensive high cost silicon solar panel obsolete. Certainly it will capture the huge solar market in Saudi Arabia:
