I couldn't agree with you more! There's no way I'd be using stop-losses on this stock for the same reason that we just saw today. And all of my shares are long-term capital gains, so the last thing I want is to lose them due to a sudden short attack, and then have to buy back at a higher price. And all of my shares are in my non-marginable account so they can't be borrowed by the broker for shorting. I have two accounts with the same broker, one marginal and the other non-marginal. If I want to sell some, I just do an online transfer to the marginal account and then sell them so that I can have immediate access to the funds.
