Yes this chart simply shows shares short vs total volume. My interest in it is that 1) there is still shorting going on. 2) on days when we have good volume it does not necessarily mean someone is buying someone else’s long position. When you open a short position you are just reversing the transaction and selling first and covering with a buy. The whole concept is fascinating to me. I don’t get how it is legal to sell someone’s shares without their knowledge. I do see how money is made. To me it’s kind of like playing the don’t pass line on the craps table. Only with this you get to do it anonymously so no one hates you.
