It is much easier to sue message board posters for defamation in Canada than in most other places. They have a much lower bar for defamation (it's actually criminal there) and fewer free speech protections.
The 1st Amendment in the US is particularly sturdy. There's a reason they didn't pursue Rosen/Mako. Clear defamation. Clear conspiracy. Precedent makes it almost impossible to get a judge allow discovery and pursuit in the US.
It's a double-edged sword.
