Memorial Sloan Kettering Among the Top “Best Hospitals” for Cancer Care and Ranked First in Gynecology by U.S News & World Report
Newswise — July 30, 2019, NEW YORK CITY — Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) has been ranked as the number two hospital for cancer care in the nation, according to U.S. News & World Report in its annual listing of Best Hospitals. Since the inception of the rankings 30 years ago, MSK has held either the first or second spot each year for cancer care. In addition to its ranking for overall cancer care, MSK was ranked:
#1 Gynecology
#5 Ear, Nose, and Throat
#6 Urology
#27 Gastroenterology and Gastrointestinal Surgery
MSK was also recognized as high performing in the fields of geriatrics, colon cancer surgery, and lung cancer surgery. In addition, MSK is ranked among the nation’s top pediatric hospitals.
“We are deeply honored and proud to be recognized again as a top hospital for cancer care and, this year, as number one in the nation in gynecology,” said MSK President and CEO Craig B. Thompson, MD. “This acknowledgement is a reflection of our extraordinary and dedicated staff. Everyone at MSK is committed to providing world-class cancer care. Being recognized in several specialties is a wonderful achievement. Our patients are our focus every day, and that is the driving force behind the MSK mission.”
The rankings recognize hospitals that excel in treating the most challenging patients. According to U.S. News & World Report, hospitals that rank nationally in any specialty have the skill and experience to treat the most complex and demanding cases that can arise in that area.
This year, MSK was ranked the number one hospital for the treatment of gynecologic cancers in the nation. This recognition of excellence reflects the depth and breadth of expertise that MSK brings to treatment for people with cervical cancer, endometrial cancer, ovarian cancer and other gynecologic cancers, including pioneering treatment advances that are the current standard of care.
2019-20 BEST HOSPITALS
U.S. News announces the 2019-20 Best Hospitals honor roll and specialty rankings, which includes the top 21 highest performing hospitals across 16 specialties and 9 procedures and conditions. This year 165 hospitals received a ranking in at least one adult specialty.
