President Donald Trump ordered roughly 750 soldiers deployed to the Middle East following an attack on the US Embassy in Iraq.
Another 3,000 were prepared for the possibility of deployment in the coming days.
The attack occurred Tuesday by dozens of Iran-supported militiamen. No US casualties or evacuations were reported.
The 750 soldiers deploying immediately were in addition to 14,000 US troops who had deployed to the Gulf region since May in response to concerns about Iranian aggression.
