my understanding 18 plus years ago China started cutting the US supply off. Democrats had had mining closed down in the US.
Guess what Afghanistan has 4-5 Trillion worth of Rare Earth. My understanding Trump has US mining on a roll again...as it is
Strategic Rare Earth... required to present day technology running and things to go BOOM!!!
and we are drawing down 4000 troops in Afghanistan. So about 1/2 the US troops leaving about 8-10 thousand multi national troops the US is still having the largest presence.
