Trump budget proposes 3.1 percent military pay raise, largest boost since 2010

Published: March 12, 2019

Troops would receive a 3.1 percent pay raise, the largest annual increase in compensation for servicemembers since 2010, in President Donald Trump’s fiscal year 2020 spending proposal sent to Congress, according to White House budget documents.

The White House proposed the pay raise in its $718.3 billion defense budget proposal unveiled Monday, the largest request for Pentagon funding ever. The proposal would also build Trump’s proposed Space Force, pour billions into modernizing American weapons systems, and moderately increases the U.S. military force size by about 7,700 servicemembers to 2,140,300 troops, including reservists and National Guard members.
