Perception, it's a funny thing.

When a tragic event happen, people will say, I'm never getting a plane again

But what is reality?

"The odds of dying in air and space transport incidents, which include private flights and air taxis, are 1 in 9,821. That's almost three times better chances than you meeting your fate by choking on food. In pure statistical terms, it's more dangerous to drive a car than to fly on a plane."

Life is about choices and risks

Even when people know the risk, they make the choice

Others make the choice without never knowing the risk

Neither is the right or wrong way to live life

But every choice carries a consequence

Would have to or what are you choosing then?

For better or worse, each choice is the unavoidable consequence of its predecessor.

But I like the odds of bees and airplanes.

Bad odds for #1 and #2 on this list. #2 might be very close to #1 when you add in smoke related illnesses

Comparative Odds of Death
Cardiovascular disease: 1 in 2
Smoking (by/before age 35): 1 in 600
Car trip, coast-to-coast: 1 in 14,000
Bicycle accident: 1 in 88,000
Tornado: 1 in 450,000
Train, coast-to-coast: 1 in 1,000,000
Lightning: 1 in 1.9 million
Bee sting: 1 in 5.5 million
U.S. commercial jet airline: 1 in 7 million

These quotes always put things into perspective for me...

“You can not go back. That's why it's hard to choose. You have to make the right choice. As long, as you don't choose, everything remains possible.”

"Every path is the right path. Everything could've been anything else. And it would have just as much meaning."

“I'm not afraid of dying. I'm afraid I haven't been alive enough. It should be written on every school room blackboard: Life is a playground - or nothing.”
― Jaco Van Dormael, Mr. Nobody

Investing is a choice as well. If you do your own DD, you may feel more comfortable with the choices you make and the risk you take. If you can't do DD because you don't know how or lack time, then maybe your choice is to outsource that to a professional rather than a messageboard?
