Chemokines can bind through other receptors but not all receptors appear or appear infrequently on differing cells. For instance CCR1 doesn't seem to express much on tumor cells. CCR1 also doesn't seem to activate the calcium pathway as strongly as CCR5. In cancer trials CCR5 blocking does produce results regardless of other chemokine receptors.
