In the state of Sonora, a group of armed men assaulted a stock truck of the SVD company that was transporting 47 gold bars to the Noche Buena mining company, a subsidiary of the Fresnillo PLC consortium.
The events occurred on November 8 at 21:10 hours, at kilometer 157 of federal highway 002D, between Caborca and Sonoyta, according to a report to which Proceso magazine had access. [MP 157 is the landmark to watch for to spot the Mexus Gate]
According to this document, the agents learned of the robbery through the C5i cameras, and thus were able to assist the three security guards who guarded the ingots of the truck, and who were injured during the assault.
The 47 bars taken by the criminals were worth some 524,000,000 pesos, according to the current price of the metal. According to the magazine, Fresnillo PLC managed to produce a total of 94 ingots between July, August and September, so that the armed group took half of the production of that period.
At the time of the robbery, the security guards were carrying three revolvers. The thieves beat them and disarmed them, although the authorities reported that the wounded are stable. They do not know, for the moment, who could have perpetrated the assault and what their modus operandi is.
