Gestalt , this is really very , very interesting for all of us and not easy to understand , at least to me ,
The "cure " they talking about it is only with bone marrow ( Stem cells ) transplant patients, I believe that donor will be pre-treated with Leronlimab , CCR5 will be blocked and working as in Delta32 patients ,
And all , or most of patient cell will be desrtroyed with pre-treatment for transplant , including reservoirs , in case some virus present new cell will not accept it and virus die in 24 or so hrs if not in cells.
This is my understanding , ...and I might be wrong somewhere ...
All this we will learned after Dr Sacha will present his work.
For now it is difficult for many of us to accept , but in medicine there are thing happening , we not sure why but they do..
I believe what they talking about here is this " functional cure " patients will need to be forever follow up if recurrence is happening.
But Berlin patients is so many years without sign of infection...
About 20-25% of HIV positive patients need bone marrow transplant right now for different malignancies.
When Leronlimab will be approved and use , I think this number will be dramatically reduced if we will have good results with cancer treatment...
Less patients will develop malignancies..
IMO as always.
