Yes , there are few different reasons why resistance may happen , but there are patients developing resistance without obvious reasons.
Often when treatment is interrupted..
There is also cross resistance , when resistance to one drug causes resistance to other medicine in the same drug class..
So patient can become resistant to medicine patient never took.
In USA just under 14% had transmitted drug resistance..
The prevalence of transmitted drug resistance increased by 5% per year...
" it is postulated that if that levels continue to increase , it could compromise the effectiveness of some therapeutic regimens "
IMO as always.
