For those with solar, check with your power company to see if they credit you 100% of the power you are producing. Some power companies credit you 100% and some don't.
This is why people are investing in battery storage. The power produced get stored to the batteries. The house runs off of the batteries until depleted. Then the system switches back to the grid, insuring the consumer receives 100% credit for the power produced.
Those batteries are expensive.
The power company I deal with, the one that just burnt down half the state of Ca., just happens to give its customers 100% credit for the power they produce. Fortunate for them. Things would get ugly real quick if they didn't.
After that stunt they pulled, if they didn't, I'm sure every one of their "slightly unhappy" consumers would form a line in front of their office that would be at least 6 blocks long and would have this to say:
