If it's less than 5,000 shares they often don't show it.
The real answer, though, is that the market makers don't WANT to show it.
I've had bids in for 10k shares that did not show up, because they were higher than the fear-mongering "bid" (for fewer shares than my bid) that DID display.
In other words, corruption.
