Update: The Senate Appropriations Committee on Thursday (Sept. 19) passed a bill that would give FDA an $80 million funding boost in fiscal 2020, with substantial investments in the agency’s medical countermeasures initiatives, pathogen reduction efforts, compounding oversight, food safety and outbreak prevention, cannabidiol activities and infrastructure maintenance.
$3.15 billion in discretionary funding for the Food and Drug Administration – including $8 million to expand its efforts to fight the opioid crisis.

Also included in the provisions was a measure encouraging the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to issue formal enforcement discretion guidance for CBD products., and support for competitive USDA grants for hemp projects.
