Re: Almost A Myth #13235
Thanks for supporting your local farmers. I am a vendor at the two farmers markets in the county where I live in West Virginia. I am not a farmer myself. I sell an organic product which I make. I have many friends that are farmers and buy as well as barter with as many as I can every Saturday and Sunday at the markets. As difficult as it is to scratch out a living farming, my farmer friends will seldom complain.
Today is a big day at my home town farmers market. After the market is over for the day, we have a farm to fork dinner that the local folks buy tickets to attend. We line up tables right down the the middle of the street and serve a fine dinner made from the all the local fruits, vegetables, meats and dairy products our market farmers produce.
We supply the products and local restaurants prepare the food that we serve.
It's hard work putting the event together but very much worthwhile.
After the event, we have a meeting and decide who we want to donate the ticket sales money to. Last year we gave money to the local day care center, the fire department and the fund to build a new library. It's our way of giving back to the community who support us all season long. I'm very proud to be a part of such a fine group of people who are our local farmers.
