You're never going to get the straight, honest answer to that question that everyone, even the most ardent longs, knows deep down.
Faith is a coping mechanism. If you give up faith, it's the same as admitting there is no hope. When someone is down a lot of money with very little chance of recourse, it's a hopeless feeling. By having faith and repeating the same empty mantras, it creates the illusion of being able to "will it into existence."
It's basically prayer.
When someone is absolutely powerless to alleviate the harsh truth of their current predicament, what else do they have to cling to?
