Generally well tolerated but about 3 % of patients stopped because of side effects.

Medicine given by IM , so must be given by professionals.

When side effects appear they are also long acting.


Noticed side effects during study ...:

-- injection side reaction.
About 1% of patients discontinued treatment because of severity of reaction.
--not given to patients with resistance ,
-- resistance may develop during treatment.
-- depression and suicidal thoughts .
-- common cold ,
--diarrhea ,
--headache .
--possibilities of birth defects.
-- drug interaction with many other drugs.


Possible side effects ....:

-- do not use in patients with Hepatitis B and C ( many HIV patients are also positive for hepatitis )
-- liver damage
-- kidney damage .
-- possible allergic reaction.
