I think setting the date is a good idea. Many of the reasons have already been stated. My one question is why set a record date of 8/30 and a pay date of 10/30 if the holder on 10/30 gets the divvy? Does that not in effect make 10/30 the record date? If 8/30 was to create stability then you should have to hold the shares from 8/30 until the pay date. If not for stability then what?
