It's quite useful if at a store shopping and you want to compare prices. Beats typing in the product name when it works.
Amazon came out with a web service called Rekognition that can be used for a lot of different things. In the case of VERB if they wanted, someone could use the camera on a product, it recognizes what it is and orders more for you. How many people would use it to justify the cost of adding it would still need to be determined. Sometimes even features that aren't used a lot do the sell solution even more because of the coolness factor.
Other aspects of the service are facial recognition which law reinforcement uses similar to what you see in movies.
