While the Company receives a large degree of protection by just filing a patent application their competition has the power to infringe upon their intellectual knowledge. That is, OWC can tell another party to stop yet are unable to effectively enforce their position as they can not sue until the patent is granted. So while some companies may be comfortable with the protection offered by a pending patent others may still feel vulnerable and I presume OWC falls within that camp.
