Just highly speculating but RP was probably close with Gilead because of his Maviroc CCR5 research.
Gilead must be highly interested in Cydy.
Maybe the ties between Gilead an RP were never really broken.
It’s not hard to imagine the many ways in which Gilead can benefit from having a friend in high -crucial- Cydys places.
So maybe that’s it: an undesirable friendship between Gilead and RP that (could have) harmed Cydys interests.
