I spoke with the International desk at Fidelity and they assured me that the stock is the same, regardless of the symbol, but for improved quotes they're changing the symbol in my portfolio to the VXL.CA.
I don't believe those who've purchase with the grey market symbol will have a problem according to Fidelity, it may be different in other brokerages, but I doubt it.
I've found Fidelity to be very professional in discussing this, the broker equated it to purchasing precisely the same model BMW in Calif. or Germany, you own the same car. I certainly agree the quote seems more accurate with the VXL symbol, but adjusted for currency differences, they trade the same.
