After trying to volunteer, my father was not allowed
to go into the services at the beginning of WW2.
He was an inspector for approval of delivery
of munitions, airplane fuel tanks, and the LST
Landing Ship Tanks.
He was too important as it was.
He ended up being the highest ranking
civilian at an active US Army Fort having
reached head of such services for a state.
