Let's understand something here...When the examine looks at a patent he rarely will accept it as it is originally written..He then points out areas of the patent which are weak, may infringe or just don't describe the novel invention properly enough.
It is then up to the company along with their patent professionals to re-evaluate, re-write, expand the patent so that the examiner will then accept it.
It is not about making the invention stronger or more protective. That happens once the patent is granted and fully enforceable.
