The appropriate person to comment on drug development and the process of getting guidance from the FDA and the European counterpart agency is -- drumroll -- the chief scientific officer, who happens to be Dr. Arthur Bertolino.
Those who complain about Dr. Bertolino being quoted clearly do not understand, or pretend not to understand, that the appropriate person should comment about the area in which he is the expert.
How ludicrous to fault the CEO for having the appropriate person (Dr. Bertolino) comment on the progress of the drug approval process, rather than the person who is not the person in charge of that area. Mr. Ehrlich was correct in having the expert give his expert opinion. Naysayers simply show that either they don't understand the company, or that they are trying to find fault when none exists.
So, they're ignorant, or acting in bad faith. Take your pick.
