I'm reminded of pro wrestling, when you have the "bad guy," and then the "good guy" steps in to defeat the "bad guy" -- but it's all a fake because they're in league with each other.
There was a hilarious story on the Moth Radio Hour this morning about a guy whose grandmother was what they called a "Hatpin Mary" -- she'd sit on the aisle, and when the "bad guy" came down the aisle heading for the ring, she'd stab him in the butt with a hatpin. Evidently this was a common thing to happen at pro wrestling in the 1950's.
No one thinks a basher accusing another basher is actually a "good guy."
