I don’t know the specifics of the deal made with AutoNation and CarMax. AutoNation has over 360 dealerships, CarMax has over 195 dealerships. The 2nd private label deal has over 60 dealerships. Yet, in the February 2019 shareholder letter Berman referenced the 2nd private label deal “This will be the largest deal we have done.” Well, 60 dealerships are nowhere close to 360 or 195 dealerships, so I went back to old tweets and comments in PR’s.
From that I concluded ONCI was given vender numbers for both AutoNation and Carmax to allow ONCI to market products to individual dealerships owned by AN and CM. Without the vender numbers ONCI would not be able to approach those dealerships. Who knows how many will sign up, but at least ONCI has an opportunity with more than 555 dealerships that it didn’t have prior to receiving vender numbers.
Don’t know if I’m correct in my thinking but that’s been my take on it for the past month or so.
