There are plenty of shareholders who do not sign up for emails and who have their stocks held in "street name" at their brokerage.
So it makes perfect sense to have a PR on the website.
As to why there was not an email to shareholders (yet?) and why it's not on the wire, who knows. Things go wrong sometimes, too -- I've seen that with other companies, that there was some kind of glitch in the news service so that they didn't post it as quickly on the public wires, and some other news services got it out first.
