Who will be buying PetSure test strips when people give up their Alpha Trak meters?
The practice is called cannibalization. It has been around for 60 years. Cannibalization was popularized by Proctor & Gamble in the soap powder channel where P&G had industry leading Tide Detergent and nowhere to go except down. So they took Tide, pained the soap flakes blue, came up with a new package, dropped the price by 10% and voila Rinso Blue Detergent. The goal was to pick up a few free points marketshare without the need for R&D. It worked.
