Though smaller than other auto insurance companies, they offer policies in 4 of the top 5 states with registered drivers and 6 in the top 10. Had revenue of over 3 billion in 2015, employs 4,500 people, and has over 8,000 independent agents in 11 states. In 2018 Mercury was award as a top 5 auto insurer by Insure.com finishing ahead of better-known providers such as Progressive, Geico, and Farmers.
