Perovskite cells may be promising as they can be mounted to walls and windows, as they do not require direct sunlight. Efficiencies soared from 4% to nearly 20% in just 5 years. This is the fastest advancing PV technology to date. They are cheap to make, even when compared with c-Si. The catch? They degrade quickly, especially in humid environments. Quantum Dot solar cells are interesting because they have a high theoretical efficiency (the maximum efficiency that could be reached), of over 45%. They are not commercially viable as they are only 9% efficient currently. Carbon nanotubes face similar problems."
