President Trump Brings Gravy Train to Grinding Stop: # Of People Officially Taken Off Food Stamps Hits 3.5 Million

You may have heard people refer to former President Barack Obama as the “food stamp President” in the past. This is because during his time in office, the number of people using the program exploded… and Democrats, in general, seem to feel that relying on government assistance is a good thing.

Clearly, relying on the government is never a good thing, and it certainly isn’t the best answer for anyone who is trying to survive in this economy.

Thankfully, President Donald Trump understands that it isn’t a positive thing to have tons of people relying on our country’s government for assistance.

It has been reported by Breitbart News that since Donald Trump’s first full month as President, more than 3.5 million people have been taken off food stamps. This data was taken from the most recent findings of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

Breitbart writes, “The most recent USDA data reveals that 38,577,141 Americans received benefits through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)—otherwise known as the federal government program responsible for giving out food stamps—in September 2018.”

According to the data, 42,134,301 Americans were on SNAP benefits when Trump started his role as President of the United States in February of 2017.

The most recent numbers also show that for 11 months in a row, enrollment in the program has plummeted.

Breitbart News reports:

Using the latest data from the USDA, here is the month-by-month breakdown of how many people canceled their SNAP benefits in fiscal year (FY) 2018:

October to November: 4,050,688

November to December: 357,508

December to January: 740,952

January to February: 385,456

February to March: 39,701

March to April: 426,055

April to May: 139,570

May to June: 175,204

June to July: 352,584

July to August: 86,238

August to September: 297,116

The consistent decline in enrollment over the past 11 months is on pace with the steady decline in SNAP participation since 2013, and the decline seems to be continuing during President Trump’s tenure in office.

It is important to remember, however, that there are multiple reasons as to why less and less people are using food stamps under President Trump.

Breitbart explains that the drop in enrollment is mainly due to President Trump USDA’s efforts in order to reform SNAP and other welfare programs. We can also attribute the drop in food stamp usage to our country’s thriving economy.

However, there are other reasons for the decline.

A study was recently conducted which findings showed that among those who recently migrated to the US in the last five years, food stamp usage has dropped by roughly 10 percent.

Breitbart explains, “The November study from Children’s HealthWatch noted that the drop in enrollment among recent legal immigrants occurred mainly because of a yet-to-be implemented Trump administration policy which would keep recent immigrants from gaining permanent residency in the U.S. if they used food stamps or other forms of welfare.”
