Catch -22, huh. Type2 diabetes is a side effect in some people, less so if weight, dietary factors and exercise regimens are followed.
I do control all three, and I do blood draws every six months to monitor my blood sugar levels, so the higher risk I run from familial hypercholesterolemia is being managed satisfactorily by
my statin use.
And not a hint of diabetes after 5 years of statin us.

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR USE OF STATINS IN DIABETES
Authors have put forth the recommendations from time to time regarding the use of statins in patients with cardiovascular diseases.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4360430/
For patients with cardiovascular risk factors, statins prevent cardiovascular event 8 times more likely than they can cause a case of incident diabetes[44] shifting the risk-benefit ratio in favour of statin therapy[44].
Modest increase in blood glucose levels by statins will not be an issue of concern if they decrease morbidity and mortality due to macrovascular and microvascular complications[45].
