24/7 infrared light energy absorption has always been considered a component of QMC solar cell construction. QDSC can blend IR with other wavelengths in a cell depending on the area's climate. An IR QDSC would work in the six month Arctic winter due to the 43% of available light energy falling on earth which is IR. It might possibly be economical to switch out IR for a wide wavelength QDSC in summer months. QDSC should be lightweight and portable depending on how they are mounted. Of course, some hydrophobic treatment or internal heating system would be necessary to prevent snow buildup in winter. Nowadays it is common for IoT in everything and sensors could be in QDSC to report, monitor and activate 'smart' devices embedded in a solar cell.

Solar cell or QD efficiency is only one component of cost. Roll-to-roll production cost decreases with the speed of production, which starts at a slow 100 meters per minute.
Cost of materials and Balance-of-systems as well as installation and transportation are all lower, especially with local and regional plants/factories. The big savings in higher efficiency is the need for fewer cells and less land. There are tradeoffs.
