Maybe, maybe not. Silly to discuss the man, his Party, his time and his suitability for today's Dem Party as though nothing has changed.
But if you want to play that game go and look at the GOP moderate and, yes, liberal Senators of the time. Not only would most be unwelcome in todays GOP, most would be appalled at and want nothing to do with today's GOP.
