Novartis has dumped 20% of their possible new drugs, in search of things that are "truly impactful." They dumped their antibiotic research program.
So "truly impactful" means "hugely profitable" because they claim that those antibiotics are still good possibilities for development -- just not by them, for business reasons. In other words, "we want drugs that we can gouge consumers for because they are desperate."
